Dark Fields (2006)

When a group of teens driving to a concert run out of gas on a desolate road, the driver heads up to the old creepy farmhouse to try to get help.  When he doesn't return the rest of them head into the dark house to find him.  Seriously?  Not a good idea to walk into someone else's house after dark, especially on an isolated farm whose family probably has shotguns or farming implements that can kill you.  Also if your friend were inside, wouldn't there be a light? I doubt he'd be sitting in the dark.

This group's cranial functioning doesn't have much capacity as they are unable to grasp the concept that if a barn door is shut, locked, and something is propped against it from the outside, then their friend could not have gone through it.  Plus the driver is a quiet dorky kid who is not prone to pulling stupid pranks. So why would they think he'd be hiding with cattle?

Stupidity is ripe in this movie and the plot advances only by conveniently overlooking the obvious.   When the group notices  they are running out of gas, they exit the highway.  At the stop sign, they discuss whether to turn left or right.  In the background, you can see a truck stop with a huge lit up Shell sign.  Really?  That is a huge oversight.  Especially when it's the only area lit up, but they head in the opposite direction which is pitch black vacant road.  Aaarrgghhh!!

Other things that make this movie super annoying?
  • they start driving in daytime, but the concert is said to still be far away after it's dark - how far away is it?
  • there are cows in the barn and a light on so it is not abandoned
  • they are convinced Drew is in the house but there are no lights and he's not answering
  • inside the dark house, they shout for Drew but do not attempt to find a light switch
  • they talk about how gross the place is but one of the girls wraps herself in a blanket from the linen closet
  • they have the brilliant idea to yell for Drew through a hole knocked in the basement wall
  • justine is so whiny you can't understand what she's saying
  • there are clippings on the wall about robbers stealing gas from the farm and being killed but they aren't concerned
  • when the killer chases them, they run into his house
  • the truck was on so the keys should be in ignition, but they aren't
  • when you find a cabin in the woods with lights on and a fire in the fireplace, it's not abandoned!
  • butcher shop - "where's all the meat" - they don't just leave it lying around all night. It goes back in the freezer or refridgerated area so it doesn't go bad.
  • they don't like Drew and treat him like crap, but he volunteers to drive them to the concert because he wants to be cool. It's their only way there and they are dicks to him.
